Social events

Beside scientific activities, several social events will be proposed during the workshop. Please find hereafter the list of social activities and brief descriptions. Note that participation fees are provided for information only and could be revised if special rebate conditions are obtained depending on the number of participants. Therefore, we kindly ask interested attendees to register (please contact francois.severin(at)multitel.be) and send their preferences back to us by June 06th, 2005. Final payment information will follow shortly.


21/07 - Trip to Brussels

Belgium will celebrate its 175th anniversary this year. This is the ideal opportunity to visit our capital on the national day. More especially, we propose two group visits in the morning: National Botanic Garden of Belgium (www.br.fgov.be) and Exhibition Made-In-Belgium (www.expo-madeinbelgium.be) . During the rest of the day, you will be able to discover the city architectural and cultural heritage around the Grand Place, do some shopping or simply enjoy the street festivals organized for this special occasion. We will gather together at night to attend the celebration firework.

PARTICIPATION FEE: 30 EUR; includes transportation to Brussels, admission to the National Botanic Garden of Belgium, admission to the exhibition Made-In-Belgium.


23/07 - Bicycle trip in Hainaut

We propose to enjoy some sport activity while discovering landscapes and outstanding sites along the waterways around the city of Mons. After a 25 km ride, you will discover the old hydraulic boat lifts, listed as world heritage by UNESCO, and the brand-new funicular boat lift (www.hainaut.be). On our way back to Mons, we will stop by the StFeuillien brewery (www.st-feuillien.com) to savour famous beers.

PARTICIPATION FEE: 30 EUR; includes bicycle renting, mid-day lunch, admission to old hydraulic boat lift, admission to funicular boat lift, admission to StFeuillien brewery.


30/07 - Trip to Bruges

One of Belgium's and if not Europe's most beautiful cities, Bruges (www.bruges.be) is a must-see. The Venice of the North, as it is known, is a well-preserved city where the historic center has been recognized as a UNESCO world heritage site. We propose to explore together the attractions of this stunning place during a guided tour. During the rest of the day, you will be able to enjoy yourselves relaxing at cafe terraces or visiting the many canals and streets by boat, foot or horse.

PARTICIPATION FEE: 30 EUR; includes transportation to Bruges and guided tour.


06/08 - Trip to Paradisio Park

Located on the former site of a 12th century abbey, this unique animal park is home for more than 4,000 animals, all seemingly thriving in their natural habitats. The Paradisio park (www.paradisio.be) is most famous for its birds living in the largest aviary in Europe. Many other surprises are waiting for you !
